As Country Manager at TerraPay, you will lead our operations in Japan, driving strategic growth, regulatory compliance, and partnership development in the remittance and cross-border payments space.

Primary Responsibilities
Remittance Strategy and Execution
- Develop and execute a comprehensive Japan-specific remittance strategy aligned with TerraPayâs global objectives.
- Identify growth opportunities and market trends in Japanâs remittance and payments industry, adapting strategies as needed.
Regulatory Relationships
- Engage with Japanese banks and regulatory bodies (e.g., FSA, Bank of Japan) to ensure full compliance with local laws.
- Serve as TerraPayâs key liaison with Japanese authorities, maintaining open communication and fostering positive relationships.
Partnership Development
- Identify and onboard new banks, financial institutions, and fintech partners to expand TerraPayâs network in Japan.
- Strengthen relationships with existing partners to ensure high-quality service delivery and long-term collaboration.
Foreign Exchange Negotiations
- Lead negotiations with banks and partners to secure favorable FX rates and terms for remittance transactions.
- Monitor and analyze FX market trends in Japan to inform strategic decisions.
Additional Responsibilities
Market Intelligence
- Stay informed on industry trends, competitive landscape, and customer preferences in Japan.
- Analyze data to provide insights that enhance operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Performance Metrics
- Set clear performance targets for Japan operations, review progress regularly, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Report key performance indicators, financial metrics, and market trends to senior management.
Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Global and multicultural mindset; ability to work with diverse teams across geographies.
- 10+ years of experience in financial services, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Deep understanding of Japanâs remittance and payments industry, including regulatory frameworks.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
Preferred Skills
- Bachelorâs degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or related field (MBA preferred).
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills.
- Fluency in English and Japanese is mandatory; additional languages are a plus.
- Legal authorization to live and work in Japan.
